"Little Mellow Man" ~ Dayton Area Children Photographer

Well here I am playing catch up again even though I thought I would be able to stay on track seeing as I am out of school. It is more difficult than I imagined however with a 15 month old and being gone for a week at Miami U to improve on my photography skills did not help either. I even missed last week’s I heart faces challenge, when I had planned on entering each week!

Oh well I only wish summer was not flying past me in a crazy fun whirlwind. ;) I think I could get used to taking photos for a living while staying at home with my little man but, my students would miss their fabulous teacher. LOL.

Well back to your regular blog post…

This was actually the second session I dragged Grant to and after doing it twice I don’t think he will be coming to many more with Mommy. I love having him there but, it is hard to stay in the picture taking zone when I have to constantly keep him out of things or from sticking everything in the sun in his mouth. Yes, he still does that; I really would have thought he would have outgrown it by now but, the teething continues.

Little R’s mother is actually a high school friend of mine so, it was a joy being able to catch up with her during a photo session. This cute chunky monkey was so laid back and mellow it was a breeze taking his portraits when I am used to dealing with my crazy little monster. It was a little bit of a challenge getting him to look at Mommy or the camera but, together we managed.

I must say this little man is strong and I would not be surprised if we are looking at a future sports hero here!

Thanks E for the opportunity to capture your adorable little boy and I hope we can get the boys together more often…

Sometimes I think I have created a monster who can't stand not being the center of attention!

His first tackle!

It was close to nap time so, the sunglasses made their appearance in a few!  Scheduling a portrait session around two babies is fun...

And finally after R showed me his many "faces" I got a few giggles and smiles.  Such a cutie...

...And another collage/storyboard experiment.

Stay tuned for a glimpse at the fun I had on the I heart Faces photo walk in Columbus, my trip to Miami U and a fun shoot with The T Family (did I mention I was behind)...

Spring Break Session with my top model

After Baby V's session work stopped me from finding the time for more portfolio building photo sessions.  However once spring break hit at the beginning of April and I finally had some time I snuck a session in with my little one, my sister and her friend.  It had been a long time since I had the chance to get any pictures of my main man and trip to the garden was the perfect time.  I was glad to finally add some examples of adult/senior portraits as well.  I got the opportunity to try out a few of my new toys as well; Nikon D70 camera (no more manual focus with my lenses!), 85mm, and 50mm lens.  I must say the kit lens is quickly becoming a thing of the past.  It was a wonderful time for everyone involved and Mommy had a much needed week off.

Baby V's One Year Portrait Session

After the exciting opportunity of practicing with my first newborn I had the chance to take my first one year portraits for a friend's little girl (in February).  I must admit that newborn's are much easier in some ways since they do not move as much as an older baby might but, baby V was a blast to shoot.  I was very excited about finally being able to take pictures of a girl since I am used to all boy things myself! She was full of energy and very patient about me posing her.  The little rocking chair was one of those rare finds I hope to find each time I visit someone's house to take pictures because those types of props just add so much character.  I was told by Baby V's mother the chair was her husband's when he was little.  As always it was a wonderful learning experience for me as well since I had a better lens (50mm) but, I had to use it manually on the D40.  Who can manual focus with a one year old?  The kit lens had to be used again to capture some sharper images.

I hope to take some 2 year old pictures for this little one in the future!

Please enjoy a taste of the fun we had...

The focus was way off on this one but, I just love this shot.
